HAYCO OFFICIALLY OPEN STATE OF THE ART FACTORY IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

28th February 2019, Hong Kong – Hayco Group, a fully integrated manufacturer headquartered in Hong Kong, today officially opened an environmentally conscious manufacturing and production factory in the Dominican Republic.

The opening ceremony was attended by the President of the Dominican Republic, Mr. Danilo Medina.

The 17,280 square metre factory, sited in the Las Americas Free Trade Zone Park in Santo Domingo, was built at a cost of over USD 60 million. It currently employs approximately 1,000 people.

It will manufacture a range of products for global multinational companies including Procter & Gamble.

The new factory supplements the Group’s China operations, where over the last 35 years, it has established three manufacturing facilities in Shenzhen, comprising 120,000 square metres, and employing some 3,500 people.

Some 35 injection molding machines, manufactured by the Austrian firm, Wittmann Battenfeld have been installed in the factory.

It has been built to be LEED compliant, and Hayco will be seeking to attain LEED accreditation this year from the US Green Building Council.

At the end of 2018, Hayco started preliminary ground work on a second factory adjacent to the site of its current factory. It is expected to be completed in 2022.

The Executive Chairman of Hayco Group, Mr. Donald Hay, said:-

“The opening of this state-of-the-art facility is the culmination of nearly six years of planning and construction.   To transfer our culture, developed in China over the last 35 years, about 15,000 km’s away, to the Caribbean was a massive challenge for our management team, and I would like to congratulate them on a job well done.  Since making the commitment to build in the Dominican Republic we have been approached by many new potential international clients, some of whom are already producing here, as many of them are looking to source components on their doorstep.  Given these new potential opportunities we have begun the planning and site preparation work for a second factory, with a view to having it in operation by 2022.”

The Chief Executive Officer of the Group, Mr Christopher Hay, said:

“Our new factory, comprising 17,280 square metres, contains all the right machinery, technology, robotics and automation.   In planning for the new factory we were committed to ensuring we operated to the highest ethical standards, that it was state of the art, that it met the highest environmental standards and created jobs. We have followed through on all these commitments. We have invested some USD 60 million, and installed over thirty precision injection molding machines, manufactured in Austria. We are employing 1000 people, including 100 people in technical positions, and a number of hearing and physically impaired staff on full salaries. The factory has many environmental and sustainable features incorporated in it and we will be seeking LEED certification this year from the US Green Business Council.”
